Laser Cutting Procedure:
PLEASE FOLLOW THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS LISTED BELOW WHEN USEN THE X-660 LASER SYSTEMS
- Never leave the laser system running unattended for any reason. Exposure to the laser beam can cause ignition of combustible materials.
- Never operate the laser system without the exhaust system running and the shop air supply ON at all times while cutting.
- A detailed list of the materials that CAN and CANNOT be cut or etched is included in the laser cutter manual.
1. Creating your part(s) drawing in AutoCAD
Create your part in AutoCAD being logged on to the account detailed in the laser cutter PCs.
In order to laser your part, it should be contained in a rectangle of the following dimensions:
- Metric: 812.8 cm (length), 457.2 cm (height).
- Standard: 32 in, 18 in.
You can do this by using the command rectangle (or simply rec) and specifying two opposite endpoints of the rectangle.
NOTE Units can be changed using the tab Tools, then Options..., and finally User Preferences
2. Configuring the Plot Style Manager
Go to File and click on Plot Style Manager, next acad.ctb and then Form View. For each color you are using, select Line Weight and change it to 0.05mm (if working with metric) or 0.002" (for standard). Finally, click on Edit Line Weights... and Save & Close.
3. Configuring the Page Setup Manager
Go to Page Setup Manager, then click on New...and give it a name, then OK. On the Page Setup - Model, in the Plot style table (pen assignments), look for acad.ctb and select yes. On the Printer/plotter part select X-660 and yes. Then go to Properties and click on Custom Properties. There, for each color select Vect, Rast or Skip and the corresponding speed, PPI and power. Then, click on Set.
IMPORTANT NOTE For laser 1 use MANUAL and for laser 2 use HIGH in Gas Assist.
Then, select okay and go to Modify Standard Paper Sizes (Printable Area) and make Top, Bottom, Left and Right 0.00 and click next. After that, make sure there is not a file with that name. Search for the X-660.pmp file and delete it. Then, click next and finish.
NOTE You can also use a different name for your file. Just remember to erase it after you are done.
Save it replacing the existing file. Click OK two times.
In Plot scale, clear Fit to paper, set scale 1:1 and specify the units. Finally, in Plot area select Extends and click OK and CLOSE.
4. Plotting
Go to File, and then Plot. In Page Setup, select your configuration (ex. Setup1). Finally, make sure Plot scale settings match your desired units and click OK.
Check that the laser cutter screen matches your settings. Next, press "Z" and use the focusing tool to set up the height. Finally, turn on the ventilation system and press start.
Voilą!
Please, clean up after you are done.
